Wild Flour Cake Co is an award winning wholesale bakery, creating cakes for the best coffee shops across the South West and beyond. We are looking for a dynamic and flexible person, with strong pastry and team skills to join our friendly talented team. As a small growing business, you would report to our Bakery Production Manager, ensuring the production and consistency within the bakery is maintained to the highest and most efficient standard at all times. We are looking for someone who is passionate about baking, driven in their career and excited to come on the journey with us from a small artisan bakery to bigger things. 

Salary: Based on experience 

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours (5 days) per week. Monday - Friday, 9am - 5.30pm

Job Description 

Baker / Pastry Chef (Timsbury, nr Bath) 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and growing team at a local, ethical bakery, which produces a range of high end, quality cakes. Working closely with the Bakery Production Manager you will be an integral part of the production team, creating cakes across all our ranges, with the occasional cake decoration.

Key Responsibilities 
  • To follow and adhered to Wild Flour Cake Co Health and Safety policy and procedures
  • To follow and adhered to Wild Flour Cake Co Food Hygiene policy and procedures
  • Work to achieve the company’s mission and behave in harmony with company culture, environmental and social initiatives 
  • To assist in the production of wholesale cakes to a high standard as set out by Wild Flour Cake Co
  • To decorate and finish all wholesale items as per specs provided and keep this consistent 
  • To ensure that wastage is kept to a minimal & recorded
  • To ensure correct labelling of all wholesale items
  • To keep good stock rotation of wholesale/stock production items
  • Ensure deliveries are put away and checked off each time
  • To fill in all record keeping forms daily/weekly/monthly to stay inline with current procedures and legislation set in place
  • To arrive at work in a ready to work manner and following the Staff personal hygiene guidelines
  • To report any issues or concerns to your manager immediately that may affect the wholesale and production at Wild Flour Cake Co

Person Specification 

Skills, qualifications and experience




Minimum 2 year pastry experience in basic and intermediate pastry skills. Ranging from pastry, lamination, sponges, gateaux, celebration cakes, cookies, entremets, glazing, frosting and chocolate work



Demonstrable experience of working in a commercial bakery or kitchen



Willingness to learn quickly, innovate and be flexible in a growing small business


Ability to listen and follow instructions carefully


The ability to deliver consistent quality with excellent attention to detail in all work produced


Ability to achieve individual daily goals, whilst working together in an environment with a small production team



Experience of baking in large commercial quantities



Experience of decorating in large commercial quantities


Happy with repetition of work



Experience of working within SALSA food standards


Experience of free-from cakes including Gluten Free and Vegan


Access to your own vehicle, to get to and from work 



Terms and Conditions 

Salary: TBC

Working hours: Full time, 37.5 hours (5 days) per week. Monday - Friday, 8am - 5.30pm

Place of Work: Your main place of work will be the bakery at Unit 1a Timsbury Workshop Estate, Hayeswood Road, Timsbury, Somerset BA2 0HQ  

Contract: Permanent 

Management: Reporting to the Production Manager 

Probationary Period: 6-months, with reviews at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months (and subject to extension if required)

Annual Leave: Statutory - 28 days including bank holidays

Pension: Government work based pension scheme

Training: One to two months of training provided by the Production Manager where both decoration and baking will be covered.
