CAKE SPECIALISTS FOR HOSPITALITY / TRADE

1B Pitville Place

Nothing compliments a slice of cake as much as a decent hot brew, so when we heard from Mikey & Matt from 1B Pitville Place in Bristol, we couldn’t wait to supply them with our bakes. So if you’re on the look out for a decent caffeine fix or somewhere to grab a bite, then check them out… the  Grilled Kim-cheese sounds insanely delicious, here’s our little interview with them!

 - Where did the love of coffee come from and what made you want to open a coffee shop?

Both myself and Matt have always been into coffee, mostly avid home baristas to start with in constant pursuit of the tastiest brew possible. We met working at a cafe in 2018 in Bristol which is, in our opinion, the best city for coffee in the UK! We both cook and host our friends for dinner all the time and both realised one day that our passion could become our livelihood, hence the cafe!

 - What's the story behind 1B Pitville?

Firstly, we aren't too keen on using coffee puns as cafe names, so we had to look elsewhere for inspiration. The cafe is situated on an old market site, 'Pitville place' We are one of four independent businesses occupying the old market place - We used the name as we wanted to pay homage to the historic space where the local community would gather and that's something we want to reanimate!

- What's your most interesting coffee bean or blend that you are using right now and why?

So, the coffee we would shout about the most is our not so humble house blend! Finca La Bastilla is roasted by a local third generation family roasters, Wogan coffee roasters. Our house roast in the specialty coffee world falls under the bracket of a 'Cup of excellence' , the most prestigious award given to the very best beans in the world. The fact that we have the ability to provide this quality of bean as our house blend, we think is really special!

- Apart from the sweet treats, we hear you serve light bites. What would you recommend to a new customer?

Something that has consistently been a part of our regularly changing menu has been, The Grilled Kim-cheese! authentic Korean Kimchi, sharp extra mature cheddar and lashings of sriracha mayo in sourdough, grilled until super crunchy and melty! As a grilled cheese it's super balanced and really punchy!

- What made you want to stock Wild Flour cakes and when you're feeling tempted, which one is your go to?

We had the pleasure of bumping into wild flour at the Bristol coffee house project a few years ago and we were able to try their products! One that stood out, and will always be our favourite is the banana and peanut butter cake with the apricot glaze! Again, as a cake, super well balanced, you get a great salty peanut kick from the peanut butter which is paired beautifully with the apricot glaze.. such a great cake!!!!
